1. How do you imagine the character distribution will work , or how do you see each of the class having a role to play? Explain
Majority of the class will play actual characters, others will play thoughts. I don’t think we have enough time to think of new characters so the thoughts will just have to reimaginements of the main characters.
2. How do you envision the costumes we will use as a cast? Explain your idea.
The main characters (the birds) will wear white as is per customary in insane asylums. This will be in stark contrast to the thoughts who will be wearing black as to fade into the background. The only one who will wear something different will be the mistress who will wearing an extravagant outfit (boa, heels, fan).
3. What role would you be interested in taking and why.
I would love to either be gloom or mistress as I have several idea for what to do.
For gloom, majority of the time, she will be silently sopping or stretching pains. However when she gets panicky she starts to feel immense pain and grabs parts of her body. She could be playing with bandages or a bottle of pills, or hiding in her sweater for comfort.
For the mistress, she is a character who can change on a dime. Sometimes she is sweet kind patient, but when the time calls for it the turns into a terrifying monster. Her sweet voice turns deep and sharp. She’s like an embarrassing soccer mom when she’s nice. Has a valley girl persona and is like an overprotective mom. When she’s angry her pitch drops, she holds her back perfectly straight to appear bigger and taller.
4. Do you think we should include physical theatre and movement sequences? If so, how?
I personally would rather do the script as is as in acting, the script is everything so I think it would be beneficial to work mainly with the script.
5. Any other thoughts about the set design, performance location, use of sound or music ideas?
For set design, I imagine it looking messy and disorganized, blocks being placed randomly throughout.
Great, you have clearly explained your ideas and have a good understanding of the themes behind the play text.To get a higher grade you could have considered concepts that we did not already discuss in class and found images to influence and inspire you. You have demonstrated some creativity but try to think outside the box or look at other performances in order to influence you. You need to have your own original ideas for the highest grades. 4/8 Criteria C
